Man Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt By Dangerous Weapon

The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon.

On 5 March 2022 at about 2.20 pm, the Police were alerted to a case where a man had allegedly assaulted another man with a parang along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 26-year-old man was involved in a dispute with the father of the 29-year-old man earlier on the same day and the 29-year-old man had allegedly retaliated with a parang for the earlier dispute and had fled the scene. The 26-year-old man sustained a slash wound and amputated right index finger and was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 29-year-old man and arrested him on 6 March 2022, within 13 hours of the reported offence.

The man will be charged in court on 7 March 2022 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 326 Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of life imprisonment; or imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or to caning.

The Police will spare no effort to track down those who commit such brazen acts and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law.
