The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.
Between 29 to 31 March 2022, the Police received multiple reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by the man who had been collecting payments for the installation of digital gates, fire rated doors, and purchase of mattresses. The victims were allegedly deceived by the man into making payments amounting to about $94,000 through PayNow transfers. After receiving the payment, the man purportedly did not arrange for the installation.
Through investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 31 March 2022. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also allegedly involved in other similar cases.
The man will be charged in court on 2 April 2022 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and a fine.
