The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire.

On 2 June 2022 at 2.08 am, the Police were alerted to a case of fire purportedly set by the man outside a residential unit at Block 999A Buangkok Crescent.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him swiftly within the same day.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also suspected to be involved in a separate incident reported on 25 May 2022 at 9.58 pm at the vicinity of Block 412 Yishun Ring Road, where he allegedly brandished a knife at a member of the public and stole a pair of slippers from a nearby shop. The knife was seized as case exhibit.

The man will be charged in court on 4 June 2022 with mischief by fire and shop theft. The offence of mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine. The offence of shop theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts and will not hesitate to act against those who blatantly disregard the law.
