The Police have arrested 10 men, aged between 15 and 30-years-old, for being suspected members of unlawful societies, possession of offensive weapon and voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon.
On 4 June 2022 at about 4.37 am, the Police were alerted to a case of stabbing at Ming Arcade at 21 Cuscaden Road. Upon Police’s arrival, a 23-year-old man was found with a 20-centimeter tactical harpoon stuck in his back and bleeding profusely from the injury. He was subsequently conveyed conscious to the hospital and is currently in a stable condition. Two male assailants had fled prior to Police’s arrival.
On the same morning, at about 8.45am, the Police responded to a case of a man armed with a parang at Labrador Park. The armed man and his accomplice had left the scene before Police arrival.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police and CCTV cameras, officers from Tanglin Police Division, Clementi Police Division, Police Intelligence Department and Criminal Investigation Department established the identities of the two assailants in the Ming Arcade stabbing case. It was also established that one of the assailants was the armed man in the Labrador Park incident. A 19-year-old youth, unconnected to the stabbing case, was subsequently identified to be the accomplice of the armed subject for the incident at Labrador Park. Following a police manhunt, the two assailants and the 19-year-old youth were arrested within 17 hours of the first report.
The Police also arrested seven other men, including three youths, under the Societies Act for being suspected members of unlawful societies and their suspected involvement in the Ming Arcade stabbing case.
The two assailants in the Ming Arcade stabbing case, aged 22 and 28, will be charged in court on 6 June 2022 with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon with common intention, punishable under Section 324 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments. The 19-year-old youth who was the accomplice in the Labrador Park case, will also be charged on the same day for possession of an offensive weapon, punishable under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive And Explosive Substances And Offensive Weapons Act 1958. The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years and caning of not less than six strokes. Police will seek to remand them for further investigations.
Investigations are ongoing against the remaining seven persons, including three youths, who were arrested for being suspected members of unlawful societies.
The Police will not tolerate any brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law. We will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with the perpetrators strictly and in accordance with the law.
