The Police are investigating seven persons, aged between 48 and 75, for their suspected involvement in illegal betting activities.
On 17 August 2022, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted an enforcement operation in the vicinity of Yishun Street 1. A 75-year-old man and 62-year-old woman were allegedly found to have acted as a gambling service provider to four other men aged between 48 and 72. Another 61-year-old man was also allegedly found to have been involved in illegal betting activities with another gambling service provider. About $2,280 in cash and seven mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.
Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
The Police take a serious view of all forms of illegal betting activities and will continue to take touch enforcement action against those who are involved in such activities.
