The Police are investigating four persons, aged between 56 and 83, for their suspected involvement in illegal betting activities.

On 7 September 2022, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted an enforcement operation in the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 5. Two men, aged 56 and 71, were allegedly found to have acted as gambling service providers to two other men, aged 71 and 83. About $2,220 in cash and two mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.

The Police take a serious view of all forms of illegal betting activities and will continue to take touch enforcement action against those who are involved in such activities.
