The Police will be charging a 43-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of public nuisance.

On 9 September 2022 at about 9.20pm, the Police received a call for assistance of a man who was behaving violently in a hospital ward. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly punched and hurled vulgarities towards the nurses and security officers in a hospital ward.

The man will be charged in court with public nuisance on 10 September 2022. Anyone found guilty of the offence of public nuisance under Section 290(b) of the Penal Code 1871 will be liable for an imprisonment term of up to three months, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.  The man is also being investigated for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code 1871, voluntarily causing hurt to security officer under Section 17B of the Private Security Industry Act 2007 and intentionally causing harassment towards public service worker under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine of up to $5,000, or both. The offence of voluntarily causing hurt to security officer carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. The offence of intentionally causing harassment towards public service worker carries an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, a fine of up to $5,000, or both. 

The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence against public servants who are carrying out their duties and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
