Twelve Persons Under Investigations For Illegal Gambling Activities

The Police are investigating twelve persons, aged between 50 and 73, for their suspected involvement in illegal gambling activities.

On 26 November 2022, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted enforcement operations against illegal gambling activities along Woodlands Street 83. Five men, aged between 59 and 69, were arrested for allegedly having acted as bookmakers to seven others, aged between 50 and 73. Cash amounting to more than $8,250, five mobile phones and gaming-related paraphernalia were seized. Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlawful gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.

The Police take a serious view against all forms of illegal gambling activities and will continue to take tough enforcement action, including those involved, to the fullest extent of the law. Members of the public are advised to steer clear of all forms of illegal gambling activities.
