Man Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Hurt By Dangerous Weapon Within An Hour

On 14 March 2023 at about 11.30am, the Police were alerted to a case of assault along Jalan Bukit Merah, where a 48-year-old man was allegedly attacked by another man.

Through ground enquiries and the with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of a 64-year-old man and arrested him within an hour of the report. Preliminary investigations revealed that both men were known to each other. Two cleavers were seized as case exhibits.

The 64-year-old man will be charged in court on 16 March 2023 with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.

The Police take a serious view of violent offences committed in public. Those who endanger the public’s sense of safety and security will be dealt with firmly.
