Man Arrested For Abetment Of Dishonestly Receiving Stolen Marine Gas Oil

The Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for his suspected involvement for abetment of dishonestly receiving stolen property relating to theft of marine gas oil (MGO) from Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd’s facility (“Shell Pulau Bukom”).

In January 2018, the Criminal Investigation Department conducted investigations against multiple incidents where MGO was stolen from Shell Pulau Bukom and sold to bunkering companies at a heavily discounted rate. The man was the Captain of a vessel owned by Prime Shipping Corporation when it allegedly received stolen MGO valued at more than US$830,000 on two occasions between March and April 2017. The man was not in Singapore during the investigation and was arrested on 18 April 2023 upon entering Singapore.

The man will be charged on 20 April 2023 with two counts of abetment of dishonestly receiving stolen property under Section 411 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or fine, or both.
