Man Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt By Dangerous Weapon Within An Hour

The Police have arrested a 56-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon.

On 15 June 2023 at about 12.40pm, the Police received a call for assistance along Tampines Central 1, where a 57-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by another man.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of a 56-year-old man and arrested him within an hour of the report. Preliminary investigations revealed that both men were known to each other. The 56-year-old man was also believed to be involved in a separate theft case.

The 56-year-old man will be charged in court on 17 June 2023 with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 326 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of life imprisonment, or imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or to caning.

The Police take a serious view of violent offences committed in public. Those who endanger the public’s sense of safety and security will be dealt with firmly.
