Police Community Roadshow 2023 At Toa Payoh Hdb Hub, Featuring Award Ceremony For Anti-Scam Student Champions

The second relaunched Police Community Roadshow (PCR) took place on 24 June 2023 at Toa Payoh HDB Hub, with an opening address delivered by Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development. She also presented awards to the top three winners of the ‘Anti-Scam Student Champions’ (ASSC) 2022 video competition.

The ASSC is an annual anti-scam initiative started by Tanglin Police Division, to engage youths to play a part in strengthening our collective effort against scams. It is open to all Secondary Two students in schools located within the jurisdiction of Tanglin Police Division. The competition requires students to conduct research and raise awareness on scams through various means, such as conducting school talks and producing an anti-scam video.

A total of 75 students from 15 schools participated in ASSC 2022. The ASSC program, which started in 2020, has since seen the involvement of over 200 Secondary Two students. ASSC participants will also be appointed as anti-scam student champions, to help spread scam prevention messages to their families and friends.

The island-wide ‘Coffee with a Cop’ (CWC) initiative, which was launched by the SPF on 17 June 2023, is also featured at this roadshow. The initiative provides a platform for SPF’s Community Policing Officers to engage members of the public in an informal chat over a beverage, for the public to understand more about SPF’s work, and for the Police to share crime prevention advisories, and promote our volunteer schemes.

The PCR provided visitors with the opportunity to view demonstrations by different Police units, such as performances by the SPF band as well as demonstrations by the Police K-9 unit and the Special Operations Command. In addition, visitors were able to put their investigative skills to the test in a mock-up crime scene.

The PCR also showcased the recently-launched ‘MATA-verse’ Roblox game for youths.[1] Through the characters in the game, players can experience in the virtual world, the work of a police officer, by navigating through a Police obstacle course, pursuing and arresting a criminal, and detecting wanted persons. Upon completing the missions, they can unlock exclusive uniforms and vehicles, and rise in their rank.
