Man Arrested For Procuring Bank Accounts From Different Individuals Through Unlawful Means

On 11 July 2023, a 30-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in procuring bank accounts from different individuals through unlawful means.

His arrest was the result of extensive investigations following the arrest of another 24-year-old man, believed to be his accomplice for making atm withdrawals from the accounts illegally procured by the man. His accomplice was earlier charged in court on 5July 2023 for the offence of unauthorized access to DBS Bank account system under Section3(1)(a) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993. A total of 51 ATM bank cards and S$74,750 were seized from the accomplice.

The man will be charged in court on 13 July 2023 for the offence of abetment to the facilitating of unauthorized access to computer material under Section 3(1) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993. This offence carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine or both.

The Police take a serious stance against any person who may be involved in criminal activities, and perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law. To avoid being involved in these crimes, members of the public should always reject seemingly attractive money-making opportunities promising fast and easy pay-outs for the use of their Singpass accounts, bank accounts or allow their personal bank accounts to be used to receive and transfer money for others. The Police would like to remind members of the public that individuals will be held accountable if they are found to be linked to such crimes.
