The Police have arrested a 17-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On 26 July 2023 at about 9pm, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking where a café along Sims Avenue was allegedly broken into. A remote-controlled toy car valued at about S$3000 was purportedly stolen.

Through ground enquires and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 27 July 2023. The remote-controlled toy car was recovered.

The man will be charged in court on 28 July 2023 with the offence of housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
