On 17 August 2023, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Serene Chiu, Commander of Clementi Police Division, presented the Public Spiritedness Award to three members of the public for assisting the Police in three separate cases. Two organisations and two staff were also commended for their strong community partnership with the Police.

Cases Commended for Public Spiritedness Award

On 12 May 2023, Mr Muhammad Shalehin Bin Ali was at home when he heard noises coming from his corridor. Sensing that something was amiss, Mr Muhammad Shalehin made a check at the corridor. He observed a man sawing his neighbour’s window panel and attempting to unlock the wooden door. Knowing that his neighbour was not at home, Mr Muhammad Shalehin immediately confronted the man who subsequently fled. He called the Police for assistance and provided crucial information including the man’s appearance and clothing as well as the direction in which he fled. His actions led to the swift arrest of the man for attempted housebreaking.

On 26 May 2023, the victim and her friend spotted a man following them into an outlet at JEM shopping mall. The victim's friend noticed that the man was hiding something in his shoe and shouted at him, prompting the man to flee. Mr Muhammad Sufie Rashid was shopping nearby when he overheard the commotion. He quickly chased after the man and managed to detain him. A handphone was found hidden in the man’s shoe, with its lens exposed through an opening of the tip of the shoe. The man was subsequently arrested for voyeurism.

On 13 June 2023, Mr Chua Eng Keong, a Senior Service Associate with SMRT, had just ended his night shift and was heading home when he noticed a man recording an upskirt video using his handphone on the escalator of Jurong East MRT station. He immediately confronted the man and alerted the female victim. The man admitted to taking the video and deleted the video in front of Mr Chua and the victim. Although the victim needed to rush off, Mr Chua brought the man to the service counter and sought for the Police’s assistance. The man was subsequently arrested for voyeurism.

Individuals Commended for Community Partnership Award (Individual)

Two staff were presented with the Community Partnership Award (Individual) in recognition of their commitment and contribution towards detecting and preventing crimes.

On 11 May 2023, Mr Patrick Lim, Security Manager of Tanglin Trust School, was informed by a female staff of the school about an indecent act that she witnessed at One-North Park. He advised the staff to lodge a police report and provided crucial information including clear descriptions of the man and the exact location to the Police. His swift actions led to the arrest of the man for making gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person.

In June 2023, Mr B Murali, a taxi driver with ComfortDelgro Corporation Limited, provided vital information to the Police about a man carrying three gunny sacks of copper wire onboard his taxi. The information allowed the Police to solve a case of Theft in Dwelling and arrest the culprit swiftly.
