Man Arrested For Theft From Vehicle And Unauthorised Transactions Using A Stolen Debit Card

The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft from vehicle and unauthorised transactions using a stolen debit card. 

On 27 August 2023, at 5:48pm, the Police received a report of a vehicle being broken into in the vicinity of Bedok Central. Valuables including cash and a debit card were allegedly stolen. There were then several subsequent unauthorised transactions made from the stolen debit card. 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of Police cameras and CCTV footage, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 8 hours of the report. 

The man will be charged in court on 29 August 2023 with the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code 1871, the offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years and a fine. The man will also be charged with the offence of Cheating under Section 420 Penal Code 1871, the offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Secure the windows and doors of your vehicle at all times;

  2. Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  3. Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle and;

  4. Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, do take note of their appearance, clothing, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance
