The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.

On 9 September 2023, the Police were alerted to a case of a fight at the vicinity of Jalan Besar. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in a dispute with a 40-year-old male victim and allegedly used a knife to attack him. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division, supported by officers from the Police Operations Command Centre and Bedok Police Division, established the identity of the man and arrested him within eight hours. Two knives and the victim’s shirt were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 11 September 2023 for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments.

The Police have zero tolerance for such brazen acts of violence and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law. The Police would also like to remind members of the public that it is an offence to carry an offensive and/or scheduled weapon in a public place. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to five years and at least six strokes of the cane.
