The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery.

On 10 December 2023 at about 4.00 am, the Police were alerted to a case of armed robbery along Chander Road. An elderly male victim reported that an unknown man had allegedly attempted to rob him with a boning hook and demanded for his gold chain with two pendants valued at $10,000. The victim refused and a struggle ensued between them, and the gold chain subsequently broke. The unknown man then fled without the jewellery, leaving the boning hook behind. The boning hook was seized as case exhibit.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV), officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 10 hours of the report.

The man will be charged in court on 12 December 2023 with the offence of armed robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of between three years and to 14 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law. Members of the public who encounter such cases are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and any distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
