The Police have arrested a 65-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.
On 22 March 2024 at about 5.15am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a coffee shop along Bedok North Street 3. A cash register, cash amounting to approximately $1800 and three cash cheques amounting to approximately $12,409 were purportedly stolen.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs and Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within five hours of the report. The cash register, cash amounting to approximately $1395 and three cash cheques amounting to $12,409 were recovered.
The man will be charged in court on 23 March 2024 with the offence of housebreaking and theft under Section 458A of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment of up to 10 years and with caning or fine.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
