Man Arrested Within Three Hours For Carrying Offensive Weapons In Public Places

The Police have arrested a 62-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of carrying offensive weapons in public places, within three hours of receiving the report.

On 10 June 2024 at about 3.20pm, the Police were alerted by a member of the public of a man allegedly seen carrying a knife while he was on a public bus. The man was observed to have brandished the knife while he was in the bus and later alighted along Geylang Road.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs and Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man. The Police arrested the man along Victoria Street within three hours of the report. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was in possession of five knives. The knives were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 12 June 2024 with the offence of carrying offensive weapons in public places under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. The offence of carrying offensive weapons in public places carries an imprisonment term of up to three years and caning of not less than six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts and will not hesitate to act against those who blatantly disregard the law.
