The Police have arrested two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, for their suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle.

On 9 July 2024 at about 11.05am, the Police received a report of a case of theft of motor vehicle from a car workshop along Kim Chuan Drive. The owner of the car workshop discovered damages on a vehicle belonging to his client and suspected that someone has driven the car before parking it back along the road.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the two teenagers and arrested them on 10 July 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen vehicle was unlocked with the key left in the vehicle while it was parked along the road outside of the workshop. The two teenagers are also believed to be involved in other similar cases of theft of motor vehicle from the same workshop.

The two teenagers will be charged in court on 12 July 2024 with the offence of theft of a motor vehicle with common intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, and a fine.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of theft, and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law. We would like to advise all motor vehicle owners to refrain from leaving the car keys in the vehicles, and to lock the car whenever it is left unattended, even for a short while.
