Two Men Arrested For Housebreaking And Theft With Common Intention And Another Man Arrested For Harbouring An Offender

The Police have arrested two men, aged 31 and 32, for their suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft. Another 30-year-man was arrested for the offence of harbouring one of the two men.

On 28 July 2024 at about 4.40am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking and theft at a residential unit along Club Street. Cash amounting to approximately $50,000, two pieces of luxury watches and five luxury bags with a total value of approximately $67,300 and an assortment of jewellery were purportedly stolen.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two men had purportedly entered the affected unit by climbing over the air-con ledge. The two men concealed their appearances with caps and wore masks when committing the offence.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTV, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on the same day of the report. Cash amounting to approximately $41,400, two pieces of luxury watches and the five luxury bags were recovered.

A 30-year-man was also arrested on 28 July 2024 for the offence of harbouring one of the two men. Police investigations are ongoing against him.

The two men will be charged in court on 30 July 2024 with the offence of housebreaking and theft with common intention under Section 451 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to remind members of the public that harbouring an offender is a serious offence, which carries an imprisonment term up to one-fourth of the longest term of imprisonment provided for the predicate offence, or a fine, or both.

All property owners are also advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  2. Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and

  3. Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
