The Police have arrested a 55-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from vehicles and fraudulent possession of property.
Between 16 May and 9 September 2024, the Police were alerted to a series of cases of theft from vehicles along Temasek Boulevard.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 19 September 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly stolen several items from unlocked vehicles, with an estimated value amounting to $100,000. The man was also found in possession of two luxury watches allegedly to have been stolen from unlocked vehicles.
The man will be charged in court on 21 September 2024 for the offences of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, 1871, which carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both; and Fraudulent possession of property under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act 1906 which carries a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to both.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure the windows and doors of your vehicle at all times;
- Do not leave valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle;
- Install an anti-theft alarm system;
- Check your vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, do take note of their appearance, clothing, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit offences against property. Offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
