The Clementi Police Division, National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), SHINE (Children and Youth Services), and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) jointly organised the Clementi Police Division Roadshow at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability on 10 November 2024.

The Roadshow, themed “Empowering Our Youths, Engaging Our Community”, showcased the proactive roles of our youths in promoting safety and security in the community. From planning, designing, to content curation of the exhibition, the SHINE Youth Community Outreach Patrol (Youth COP) engaged and educated the public on various types of crimes through interactive game booths and engaging activities, including a skit, to spread crime prevention messages.

Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development was the Guest-of-Honour at the event, and presented awards for the Police’s #YouthAgainstScams TikTok competition and Anti-Scam Challenge.

The inter-school anti-scam video competition (#YouthAgainstScams TikTok competition) is an initiative started in 2023 by the Clementi Police Division. The competition taps on youths’ creativity and social media know-how to create vibrant and innovative content that resonates with their peers, and to spread anti-scam messages through their own social media networks. Into its second edition, this year’s competition took place from 13 May to 31 July 2024 and was extended to all secondary schools, Junior Colleges, Institute of Technical Education and tertiary institutions. This year’s competition saw an overwhelmingly positive response, with more than 250 videos uploaded on TikTok, garnering about 700,000 views. The most trending video from Team ‘Galvanised Steel’ garnered more than 300,000 views.

#YouthAgainstScams award winner and leader of Team ‘Galvanised Steel’, Woong Chin Han, a Secondary 3 student from Tampines Secondary School said, “We are very grateful for this incredible experience. This competition provided opportunities for youths to showcase their talents while also raising awareness about scams. Throughout this competition, I have created unforgettable memories with my friends that will stay with me forever. Most importantly, I would like to urge everyone to do their part to fight scams as well.”

Our community partners such as the grassroots organisations also participated in the Anti Scam Challenge. This challenge aimed to include members of the Residents’ Committees, Residents’ Networks, and Neighbourhood Committees (RCs/RNs/NCs) in ongoing anti-scam engagements and outreach efforts and tap on their networks with the residents to spread anti-scam messages. Over 90% of RCs/RNs/NCs in Clementi Police Division’s jurisdiction participated and worked with their respective Neighbourhood Police Centres to spread anti-scam advisories and raise awareness of scams to the residents.

Everyone has a role to play in fighting crime. Together, we can keep Singapore safe and secure.
