The Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.
On 7 December 2024 at about 9am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking and theft at a F&B establishment located at 23 Serangoon Central. Staff of the F&B establishment had found their eatery in a disarray when opening it for business. Upon reviewing the CCTV recordings, they discovered that an unknown man had entered the premises of their eatery during closure hours on 6 December 2024 at about 11.25pm. The man allegedly pried open a metal drawer and purportedly stole cash amounting to S$3,500.
Through follow-up investigations, and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTV, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 16 December 2024. He is believed to be involved in other similar cases.
The man will be charged in court on 18 December 2024 with the offence of housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
