The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly attacking and injuring two Police officers.
On 16 December 2024 at about 12.50pm, officers from Clementi Police Division were carrying out anti-crime rounds in the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 3. The Police officers spotted a man and proceeded to conduct checks on him. During the checks, suspected controlled drugs, drug paraphernalia, a pair of thread scissors and a mobile phone which allegedly did not belong to the man were found in his possession. He refused to cooperate and turned aggressive. During the arrest, the man allegedly punched and kicked two officers. After his arrest, the man also allegedly spat at another officer.
As a result of his action, the 23-year-old officer sustained injuries to his face and chest. The other 24-year-old officer sustained injuries to his head, chest and forearm. Both officers were subsequently discharged with 3 days of medical leave.
The man will be charged in court on 18 December 2024 for the following offences:
- Two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to seven years, and a fine or caning; and
- One count of using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to four years, a fine or both.
In addition, the man is under investigation for the following offences:
- Possession of offensive weapon under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to three years and caning with not less than six strokes; and
- Fraudulent possession of property under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 1906 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to one year, a fine of up to $3,000 or both.
Investigations by the Central Narcotics Bureau into the suspected drug-related offences are ongoing.
The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence towards police officers or public servants who are carrying out their duties. The Police will not hesitate to take firm action against those who endanger the safety of our officers.
