Security And Traffic Arrangements For Christmas Celebrations 2024

Large crowds are expected in the vicinity of Orchard Road on the night of Christmas Eve (24 December 2024).

Safety and Security Arrangements

From the evening of 24 December 2024, Police officers, auxiliary police officers, and security officers will be deployed to manage crowds in the vicinity of Orchard Road. Crowd control barricades and direction signs will be put up to facilitate a safe and orderly crowd flow.

Officers from Tanglin Police Division, including the Emergency Response Team, Protective Security Command, Transport Security Command and the Special Operations Command will also be conducting enhanced patrols during this period to ensure the safety and security of the public. Security personnel may conduct checks on bags and personal items. Members of the public are advised to cooperate with security personnel to facilitate these checks.

The Police would also like to remind the public to remain vigilant and adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Always look after your belongings especially in crowded areas;
  2. Be cautious when approached by strangers who try to get very close to you;
  3. Ensure your bag is always closed and sling it in front;
  4. Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket;
  5. Take note of crowd advisories and comply with instructions from officers and security personnel;
  6. Avoid contact/confrontation with unruly crowds; and
  7. Approach any Police officer or dial ‘999’ for urgent assistance.

As Orchard MRT station is expected to be crowded, certain entrances and exits will be closed to regulate crowd flow, if required. Members of the public are advised to use Somerset MRT station to minimise waiting time or to utilise other public transport options.

Members of the public are encouraged to check the Crowd@OrchardRoad map at https://go.gov.sg/crowd-at-orchard-road to view real time crowd levels and area closures before proceeding to Orchard Road for the Christmas Eve festivities. Users will be able to access this platform via their mobile devices from 24 December 2024, 5pm onwards. Please refer to the Annex for the QR Code linking to the Crowd@OrchardRoad map.

The public is reminded to be considerate and avoid engaging in activities and/or the use of party novelty items, including aerosol foam sprays, that may annoy or compromise the safety of others. The Police will not hesitate to take action against anyone who causes public nuisance or breaks the law.

Traffic Arrangements

To facilitate the event, the following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the stipulated periods:

During the closure, access will only be granted to authorised vehicles as well as police and emergency vehicles. Auxiliary police officers will be stationed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists. Traffic Advisory Signs and electronic Variable Message Signs will also be put up near the affected roads. Motorists are encouraged to tune in to the radio for the latest traffic updates.

Members of the public heading to Mount Elizabeth Hospital can use the alternate route from Bideford Road into Mount Elizabeth Link.

We seek the cooperation of members of the public to comply with the security and traffic arrangements for the events.

As we enjoy the festivities, we urge everyone to remain vigilant and play their part in our fight against crime and terrorism. Anyone with information on suspicious persons or activities can contact the Internal Security Department at 1800-2626-473 or the Police at 999, SMS to 70999, or submit the information online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness or report it via the SGSecure mobile application.
