Large crowds are expected in the vicinity of Orchard Road on the night of Christmas Eve (24 December 2024).
Safety and Security Arrangements
From the evening of 24 December 2024, Police officers, auxiliary police officers, and security officers will be deployed to manage crowds in the vicinity of Orchard Road. Crowd control barricades and direction signs will be put up to facilitate a safe and orderly crowd flow.
Officers from Tanglin Police Division, including the Emergency Response Team, Protective Security Command, Transport Security Command and the Special Operations Command will also be conducting enhanced patrols during this period to ensure the safety and security of the public. Security personnel may conduct checks on bags and personal items. Members of the public are advised to cooperate with security personnel to facilitate these checks.
The Police would also like to remind the public to remain vigilant and adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Always look after your belongings especially in crowded areas;
- Be cautious when approached by strangers who try to get very close to you;
- Ensure your bag is always closed and sling it in front;
- Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket;
- Take note of crowd advisories and comply with instructions from officers and security personnel;
- Avoid contact/confrontation with unruly crowds; and
- Approach any Police officer or dial ‘999’ for urgent assistance.
As Orchard MRT station is expected to be crowded, certain entrances and exits will be closed to regulate crowd flow, if required. Members of the public are advised to use Somerset MRT station to minimise waiting time or to utilise other public transport options.
