Man Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt By Dangerous Weapons

The Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.

On 24 December 2024 at 3.40 am, the Police were alerted to a case where a 25-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a 24-year-old man with a knife along Jalan Besar Road. The 25-year-old man suffered laceration wounds and was later conveyed conscious to the hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed that both men were known to each other and they had a dispute previously. After the assault, the 24-year-old man fled the scene.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the 24-year-old man and he was arrested on the same day in a residential unit located at Keat Hong Close.

During the arrest of the 24-year-old man, another 19-year-old female was also arrested for the offence of harbouring an offender under Section 212 of the Penal Code 1871. The 24-year-old man will be charged in court on 26 December 2024 with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons under Section 326 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of life imprisonment, for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or to caning.

The Police will spare no effort to track down those who commit such brazen acts of violence and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law. The Police would also like to remind that it is also an offence to carry an offensive and/or scheduled weapon in a public place otherwise than for a lawful purpose. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to five years and at least six strokes of the cane.
