Five men, aged between 29 and 47, will be charged in court on 16 January 2025 for their suspected involvement in five separate cases of outrage of modesty.
The cases are as follows:
- On 21 January 2024, a 34-year-old man had allegedly molested a 19-year-old woman, at a linkway along Buffalo Road. The man will be charged in court with one count of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
- On 31 May 2024, a 47-year-old man had allegedly molested two men, aged 30 and 31, at Marina Bay Sands. The man will be charged in court with two counts of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871. He will also be charged with one count of criminal force under Section 352 of the Penal Code 1871 and one count of criminal trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code 1871.
- On 24 June 2024, a 42-year-old man had allegedly molested a 22-year-old woman, at a bar along Raffles Link. The man will be charged in court with three counts of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871. He will also be charged with one count of intentional harassment under Section 3(2) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014.
- On 10 August 2024, a 29-year-old man had allegedly molested a 27-year-old woman at City Hall MRT. The man will be charged in court with one count of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
- On 18 December 2024, a 38-year-old man had allegedly molested a 25-year-old woman at Suntec City. The man will be charged in court with one count of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
The offence of outrage of modesty, punishable under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871, carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
The offence of intentional harassment, punishable under Section 3(2) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014, shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.
The offence of criminal force, punishable under Section 352 of the Penal Code 1871, carries an imprisonment for a tern which may extend to 3 months, or with fine which may extend to $1,500, or with both.
The offence of criminal trespass, punishable under Section 447 of the Penal Code 1871, carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 months, or with fine which may extend to $1,500, or with both.
The Police will continue to work closely with various stakeholders, such as public entertainment outlets, public transport operators, and the community, to prevent and deter molestation cases. The Police would also like to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and to report the matter to the Police immediately, if they witness an incident of molestation, or are aware of someone being a victim of molestation.
