The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft in dwelling cases.
Between 9 and 15 January 2025, the Police received multiple reports from various food stalls and restaurants of cash stolen from their cash registers. Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Tanglin Police Division, Bedok Police Division and Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 16 January 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly entered these food stalls and restaurants located within the shopping malls during the closing hours, to commit theft. The man wore a face mask whilst committing the offences to conceal his facial features and to avoid detection. A total of about $5,500 was stolen from the reported cases.
The man will be charged in court on 18 January 2025 with the offence of theft in dwelling, under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
