The Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in credit card fraud.

On 23 January 2025, the Police were alerted to multiple reports of suspected credit card fraud. Several local merchants reported that they were alerted by banks that unauthorised transactions had been processed through their businesses.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division and Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the man and arrested him on 10 February 2025. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly tampered with stolen credit cards’ Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) chips, and later used them to make several unauthorised transactions of luxury goods amounting to a total of $85,000. Several items such as multiple credit cards believed to be forged, three mobile devices, a branded luxury watch and a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) device were found in his possession and were seized as case exhibits. Investigations also revealed that he is believed to be involved in other similar cases.

The man will be charged in court on 12 February 2025 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
