The police have arrested a 42-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of employment scams.
Between August 2023 to September 2024, the Police received reports from several victims of employment scams who had responded to online advertisements offering job opportunities. After the victims had made payments for administrative fees via bank transfer, the man purportedly became uncontactable.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 7 February 2025. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved at least 23 similar cases of employment scams.
The man will be charged in court on 8 February 2025 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
