Five Men To Be Charged For Dangerous Driving

Five men, aged between 43 and 73, will be charged in court on 26 March 2025 for dangerous driving. These individuals allegedly failed to conform to red light signals, resulting in separate accidents. All of these cases resulted in hurt to other parties.

The details of the cases are as follows: 

  1. On 17 January 2025, a 57-year-old male car driver failed to stop at the red light at the junction of Toh Guan Road and Jurong East Central, resulting in a collision with another car that was travelling straight. The collision caused injuries to four people – the driver and two passengers of the other car, as well as a passenger in his own car. The car driver will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64(2B)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  2. On 17 January 2025, a 43-year-old male van driver failed to stop at the red light at the junction of Sentosa Gateway and Telok Blangah Road, resulting in a collision with a car that was making a right turn. The collision resulted in injuries to a passenger in the car.  The van driver will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64(2B)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  3. On 30 October 2024, a 46-year-old male car driver failed to stop at the red light at the junction of Bras Basah Road and Victoria Street, resulting in a collision with another car that was travelling straight. The passenger of the other car sustained injuries.  The car driver will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64(2B)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  4. On 29 August 2024, a 44-year-old male lorry driver failed to stop at the red light at the junction of Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim and Tuas West Road, resulting in a collision with a motorcycle that was travelling straight. The motorcyclist sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured wrist.  The lorry driver will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. 

  5. On 28 August 2024, a 73-year-old male car driver failed to stop at the red light at the junction of Clementi Road and Maju Drive, resulting in a collision with a car that was turning right. The driver of the other car sustained injuries. The car driver, who is a repeat offender, will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64(2B)(b) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

The offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a jail term between one and five years and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a jail term between two and ten years; and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

The offence of dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64(2B)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $10,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a fine up to $20,000, a jail term up to four years or both; and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

The Traffic Police takes a serious view of motorists who disregard traffic signals and drive dangerously. Running red lights is a serious offence that puts lives at risk and can lead to devastating accidents. All motorists are reminded to exercise patience, observe traffic signals, and drive safely for the well-being of all road users. The Traffic Police will continue to take firm enforcement action against those who flout traffic laws and endanger public safety.
