The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of a gold bracelet.
On 6 April 2025 at about 3.35pm, the Police was informed of an alleged theft case at a jewellery shop located along Serangoon Road, after a man allegedly took a gold bracelet valued at about $12000 and left the shop without making any payment. Investigations revealed that the man had expressed interest to buy a gold bracelet but after trying it on, he walked out of the shop while the staff was serving another customer.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of the images from Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 24 hours of the report. Cash amounting to more than $4900, a smartphone and a laptop were seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on 9 April 2025 with the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of theft in dwelling carries an an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years and a fine.
The Police would like to advice retailers to be vigilant against similar tactics and to keep a close watch on items placed on their display counters.The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
