The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of supplying SIM cards to scam syndicates.
Between 10 and 15 April 2025, the Police received several reports regarding students being recruited to provide SIM cards registered under their personal information in exchange for monetary compensation.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Anti-Scam Command established the identity of the man and arrested him. Preliminary investigations revealed that between November 2024 and February 2025, the man had engaged several students to register SIM cards using their personal information at retailers in return for cash. He would pay them a sum of money to register multiple SIM cards and then collect the SIM cards from them once done.
The man will be charged in court on 17 April 2025 for the offence of supplying SIM cards registered using other persons’ personal information for criminal activity under Section 39D(2)(a)(i) of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act 1906. The offence carries an imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years or to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to both.
The Police take a serious view of these offences and will not hesitate to take action against individuals who misuse their eSIM/SIM card via reselling, allowing others to use their SIM cards, helping other individuals to register or holding multiple SIM cards without a legitimate reason.
