The Police have observed a resurgence of a scam variant that involves scammers impersonating legitimate property agents and pressuring victims for payment to secure the rental of a unit before viewing the property. Since January 2023, at least 305 victims have fallen prey, with losses amounting to at least S$1.7 million.

The Police would like to remind the public to be discerning when shopping online, especially when ordering pricey and seasonal food items (e.g. seafood, black gold musang king durian, cherries, wagyu beef) through online platforms. Since February 2023, at least 168 victims have fallen prey to e-commerce scams involving the sale of food items, with losses amounting to at least S$20,000. The Police have received reports lodged against allegedly fraudulent Facebook pages such as Grocery Retail, Department Store, Juewei Food, Baihui Mall and Ocean Fishery Exchange. Investigations are ongoing.
