National Service for all male Singaporeans began soon after Singapore’s separation from Malaya. The first batch of national service officers was enlisted into the Singapore Armed Forces in 1967. In the same year, part-time Vigilante Corps (VC) and part-time Special Constabulary (SC) forces were first established within the Singapore Police Force. It was, however, only on 24th July 1975, 8 years after the introduction of national service that the first intake of full-time Police National Service officers was enlisted.
The SPF plays an important role in fighting crime and enforcing law. Your enlistment in SPF will provide you with a challenging and enriching experience in terms of training and character building. After two years, you will emerge as a well-trained and an all-rounded individual. Your newly acquired knowledge and skills will make you more mature, confident and disciplined so that you will be properly equipped to face the challenges ahead in your adult life.
After having completed your full-time National Service, you may even decide to dedicate your life to crime fighting and law enforcement by signing on with the SPF as a regular officer.
