53 Charged For Non-Compliance With Safe Distancing Measures

34 men and 19 women, aged between 20 and 75, have been charged in court on 9 December 2020 for non-compliance with safe distancing measures (SDM) under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020.

The cases are as follows:

  1. On 6 June 2020, the Police were alerted to a large group gathering inside a residential unit along Bedok Reservoir Road.

    A total of 14 persons have been charged with offences under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020, for having a social gathering in a residential unit.

    The five occupants of the unit have been charged with breaching one count of regulation 4(4) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020, punishable under Section 34(7) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020 for allowing more than five visitors into their unit.

    For participating in a social gathering, the nine visitors have been charged with breaching one count of regulation 6(1) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020, punishable under Section 34(7) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020.

    For leaving their place of residence for the social gathering, seven of the visitors have additionally been charged with breaching one count of regulation 4(2) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020, punishable under Section 34(7) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020.

  2. On 16 June 2020, the Police were alerted to a group gathering inside an office unit along Buroh Street. Investigations revealed that the group was having a birthday celebration at the unit.

    For participating in a social gathering, 13 persons who were at the birthday celebration have been charged with breaching one count of regulation 6(1) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020, punishable under Section 34(7) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020.

  3. On 1 December 2020, the Police conducted an anti-crime operation along Geylang Road and 26 persons were allegedly found to be gambling inside a unit.

    All 26 persons have been charged with breaching one count of regulation 6(1) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures)(Control Order) Regulations 2020, punishable under Section 34(7) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020, as well as offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act.

The authorities take a stern view of irresponsible behaviour and the flouting of SDM. The authorities will not hesitate to take action against anyone who does not comply with SDM or shows blatant disregard for our laws. Let us all be socially responsible and do our part to curb the spread of COVID-19.
