11 Women Under Investigations Following Enforcement Operation Against Illegal Gambling

The Police are investigating 11 women, aged between 28 and 88, for their suspected involvement in illegal gambling.

On 4 February 2021 at about 4.30pm, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted an operation at a residential unit along Teban Gardens Road. The 11 women were allegedly gambling inside the unit. A 75-year-old woman will be investigated for operating a common gaming house. The remaining 10 women are being investigated for gaming in a common gaming house. Cash and other gambling-related paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits.

The 11 women will also be investigated for breaching safe distancing measures under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

The offence of managing a place to be used as a common gaming house under Section 4(1)(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act carries a fine of not less than $5,000, and not more than $50,000, and an imprisonment term not exceeding three years. The offence of gaming in a common gaming house under Section 7 of the Common Gaming Houses Act carries a fine not exceeding $5,000, or an imprisonment term not exceeding six months, or both.

The Police will continue to clamp down on criminal activities, including illegal gambling. Those found engaging in illicit activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
