The Police have arrested a 61-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of cheating involving the sale of counterfeit watches.
On 27 December 2024 at 11.30am, the Police were alerted to a case of cheating in the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, whereby a victim was allegedly cheated by the 61-year-old man, who approached her and sold her a branded watch at $100. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly approached individuals in public places, claiming to have lost money at a casino and offered to sell the branded watches between $100 and $300. It was later discovered that the watches were counterfeits.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division and Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within five hours of the report. Several watches that were purportedly counterfeited and cash amounting to about $1,340 were seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on 28 December 2024 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
