The Police have arrested a 30-year-old male Chinese national for his suspected involvement in a case of theft onboard an aircraft.
On 4 February 2025 at about 1.56pm, the Police were alerted to a case of alleged theft onboard an aircraft enroute to Singapore. Preliminary investigations revealed that a passenger saw the man allegedly touching her bag which was stored at the overhead compartment of the aircraft and confronted him. Upon checking the contents of her bag, the passenger discovered that a stack of US dollars (USD) was missing and suspected that the man had stolen her monies.
After the aircraft landed at Changi Airport, officers from Airport Police Division conducted a swift and thorough follow-up investigations. Together with the assistance of the cabin crew, they managed to locate the missing stack of cash amounting to USD $885 in another overheard compartment near where the man traversed during the incident.
The man will be charged in court on 6 February 2025 for the offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code 1871, read with Section 3 of the Tokyo Convention Act 1971. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or with a fine, or with both.
The Police take a serious view of theft cases onboard aircraft and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
