Police have arrested a 39 year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of lorry at a carpark in Woodlands St 13.

 

          On 7 April 2015 at about 11am, the victim had left the vehicle key in the ignition with its engine running while making a delivery. He returned about an hour later and discovered his lorry missing.

 

        Following the report lodged, officers from Jurong Police Division carried out extensive investigations and spotted the stolen lorry travelling along Woodlands Ave 3. The suspect was arrested in Blk 108 Woodlands St 13 on the same day.

 

          The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 April 2015 for the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces an imprisonment term of up to 7 years and shall also be liable to fine.

 

          Police would like to advise motor vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked;

  • Do not leave the vehicle key in the ignition switch even if it is for a short while;

  • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas; and

  • Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
