Police have arrested a 42-year-old man believed to be responsible for several cases of theft from vehicles reported in Jurong between March and April 2015.

 

2          Following the reports lodged, officers from Jurong Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations. The man was subsequently arrested on 8 April 2015 along Boon Lay Drive.

 

3          The man will be charged in court on 10 April 2015 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle under Section 379 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he faces a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years and shall also be liable to a fine, or both.

 

4          Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure windows and doors of vehicle at all times

  • Do not leave valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle

  • Remove cash card from the In-Vehicle Unit (IU)

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system

  • Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, do take note of their appearance, clothing, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
