Police have arrested a 43-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment within 19 hours of report.
2 On 11 May 2015 at about 7.20am, Police was informed that a vehicle, which was parked along Lorong Kilat, had been defaced with orange spray paint and a debtor’s note was left behind. Upon receipt of the report, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow up investigations immediately. The identity of the suspect was eventually established and he was arrested along Yuan Ching Road on 12 May 2015 at about 2.30 am. Upon his arrest, loan shark paraphernalia such as spray paint, markers, double-sided tape and stack of A4 paper believed to be connected to the case were seized as case exhibits.
3 The suspect will be charged in Court on 13 May 2015 for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes
4 Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment. Those who deliberately vandalise properties will be arrested swiftly and dealt with severely in accordance with the law. Upon conviction, these perpetrators can expect to be caned and jailed for damaging property and causing alarm to the general community. No effort will be spared to nab them to face the full consequences of their misdeeds regardless of their age.
