Police have arrested a 25-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of Theft from Vehicle cases committed in carparks located in Jurong West.

 

On 28 July 2015 at about 12.30 pm, a case of theft from vehicle was reported at a carpark along Jurong West St 41. Following the report, officers from Jurong Division responded to the case promptly and arrested the suspect along Jurong West Street 41 on the same day. EZ-link cards believed to be stolen from the IU unit of the vehicles were found in his possession.

 

The suspect will be charged in court on 30 July 2015 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle under Section 379 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he will face an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

 

Police would also like to advise vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked;

  • Do not leave the vehicle key in the ignition switch even if it is for a short while;

  • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas; and

  • Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
