In celebration of Singapores 50 years of independence, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) honoured the contributions of our pioneer officers who played an instrumental role in maintaining the nations safety and security in our fledgling years.

Recognising Pioneers contributions

Over 900 pioneer officers and their guests attended the SPF SG50 Pioneers Appreciation Nite event at Capitol Theatre, which saw the pioneer officers receiving an individualised SG50 Medallion from senior police leaders, as well as a Police Life SG50 Special Commemorative Book titled Setia dan Bakti (translated as Loyalty and Service). The book is a collection of some 50 stories of our pioneer officers narrating their personal experiences and contributions to the Force’s significant milestones over the years.

Screening of movie 1965

Guests attended an exclusive screening of the movie “1965”. The movie revisits the social tension and unrest in the period between 1963 and 1965, and is told through the eyes of a young police inspector who witnesses the nation’s early tumultuous years. The movie also highlights the role of the Police during these challenging times, such as the series of racial riots in 1964.

Launch of SPF-SPH e-book Guilty As Charged

SPF also launched a special SG50 e-book produced in collaboration with the Singapore Press Holdings. Titled “Guilty As Charged”, the e-book features 25 high-profile crime cases that occurred in the past 50 years, showcasing SPF’s investigative proficiency and professionalism.

Tribute to Pioneers

Honouring the contributions of our Police pioneer officers, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Melvin Yong, Director of Public Affairs Department, Singapore Police Force said: “Singapore will not be as safe and secure as it is today without the dedicated service of our pioneer officers. While the landscape and the challenges we face have evolved, the nature of policing remains the same – to bring criminals to justice and to uphold law and order. We continue to be inspired by our pioneers’ loyalty and service, and we dedicate ourselves to build on their legacy to make Singapore our best home.”
