Police have arrested four men, aged 16 to 17, for their suspected involvement in theft of motorcycles in Choa Chu Kang estate.

On 14 August 2015, police officers from Choa Chu Kang Neighbourhood Police Centre conducted a check on two men, both aged 17, loitering suspiciously near a motorcycle along Choa Chu Kang Grove. They were subsequently placed under arrest as it is believed that they had stolen the said motorcycle earlier at a nearby HDB carpark. Shortly after, the officers spotted two other men, aged 16 and 17, riding motorcycles in the vicinity and interviewed them. The two motorcycles were also believed to have been stolen and the duo were arrested at scene.

All four men will be charged in Court on 15 August 2015 for the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle with common intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, each faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

Police would like to remind motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
  • Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle whenever it is left unattended, even if it is only for short while;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm; and
  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks on your motorcycle.
