Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 20 August 2015, Police received a report that loanshark graffiti had been scrawled on the wall of a residential unit at Yishun Central. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division arrested the male suspect in the vicinity of Woodlands Crossing on 24 August 2015. Loanshark paraphernalia such as a marker and a mobile phone were found on him and seized as case exhibits. He is believed to have committed similar loanshark harassment island-wide in Yishun, Toa Payoh, Jurong East and Jurong West.

The 30-year-old man will be charged in Court on 26 Aug 2015 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
