Police have arrested two men aged 23 and 28 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 6 September 2015, Police received a report that loanshark graffiti had been scrawled on the wall of a residential unit at Bedok North. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Division arrested the suspects at Bedok Reservoir and Tanglin Halt on 15 September 2015. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to be involved in several acts of harassment by splashing paints and affixing debtor notes on the debtor’s unit in Bedok and Bukit Panjang housing estates.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 17 September 2015 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of harassment on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
