Police have arrested a 66- year- old man believed to be involved in a series of theft from vehicles committed in the Bukit Batok housing estates.

On 25 November 2015, two cases of theft of cash card from vehicles were reported along Bukit Batok West Avenue 5.

Following up on the reports, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and immediate follow-up. Within 48 hours the officers managed to establish the identities of the suspect and subsequently arrested him on 27 November 2015 along Choa Chu Kang Street 51.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in other cases of Theft from Vehicle in Bukit Batok housing estate.

The suspect will be charged in court on 28 November 2015 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will face an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

To prevent Theft from Vehicles, members of public are advised to adopt the following precautionary measures:

  1. Park in well-lit areas and do not leave valuables in the vehicle.
  2. Install an anti-theft system.
  3. Remove cashcards and other valuables such as laptops before leaving your vehicle, even if it is for a short while.
  4. Wind up all windows and close all doors of your vehicle, even if it is left unattended for a short while.
